Event-driven tourism has two advantages during a recovery. It attracts domestic and regional travellers who may not be planning long-haul trips, and it gives operators a clear, marketable date around which to build packages, accommodation deals and guided experiences.

Cambodia’s festival calendar — from Khmer New Year to Pchum Ben and the water festival — offers a year-round rhythm of these demand spikes, each with its own traditions, foods and ceremonies that travellers rarely see elsewhere.

The Online Guide Association encourages members to build festival-anchored itineraries well in advance, pairing the headline event with temple visits, village experiences and food tours so that a single celebration becomes a multi-day stay.
